Today's Devotional - Trusting God

When things go wrong in your life, do you rant and rave, cry, unravel and worry until you practically have a nervous breakdown? Or do you go to The Lord in prayer, knowing He is still in control?

Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

I like what Nora Mayers had to say about this scripture. "This is a promise that no matter the circumstance in the life of a believer, every single incident has purpose towards the good. Christians believe that God is intimately familiar with all of the circumstances of a person's life and He is never caught by surprise by the things that transpire. Christians believe that God knows which experiences each person, individually, requires."

Trusting God By Knowing God's Character

Radio personality Don Kroah of Washington, D.C. enjoys closing his daily program by saying, "You can trust the Man who died for you." In the Bible, Job understood this principle, even though he did not understand why God allowed difficult circumstances into his life. Despite the tragic woes that befell this godly man, He understood God's character and knew that God had a purpose.

In Job 13:15, Job says: "Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him." Job was not exercising blind faith when he had the courage to say those remarkable words. Job had a relationship with God, and though he didn't understand God's methods, His relationship with God was enough to give him the strength to trust.

It is not always easy, as I am learning, to 'let go and let God'. I tend to start with crying, then get angry, then I remember, Oh! My heavenly Father will handle this and I need to trust Him!' That's a tough leap of faith when you are used to trying to handle all of your problems on your own. Tough, but it is a leap that is essential in my relationship with God. Here I go!
